Morgan, Utah, is a community of about 3,800 people not far from Ogden. Morgan's elevation is over 5,000 feet, and it is the county seat of Morgan County. To distinguish it from the county, it is sometimes called Morgan City. The community is conveniently located along Interstate 84, so access to Ogden and Salt Lake City is very good.

History

Two small settlements, South Morgan and North Morgan, which had developed along opposite sides of the Weber River. They were united to form the incorporated community of Morgan in 1868. Jedediah Morgan Grant was instrumental in directing the construction of a road to Morgan through Weber Canyon, and this led to the town being named after him.

Parks and Recreation

The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest offers over 2 million acres encompassing varied eco-systems, towering peaks and backcountry wilderness. The protected lands include the 13,584-foot Kings Peak, the highest point in Utah. Recreational enthusiasts of all types come here for world-class mountain biking, skiing in virgin powder and wilderness camping.

Attractions and Activities

What has been described as one of the better-kept golf secrets in Utah is located in the scenic Morgan area. Round Valley Golf Course is a par-72, 6,500-yard layout dotted with large, mature trees. The emerald green fairways contrast with the picturesque mountains that loom above the valley floor.

Events

The Fourth of July celebration at Riverside Park in Morgan is first-rate. The celebration actually begins the night before with "Spike Night," a volleyball tournament held at the high school. A kids run and a pancake breakfast begin the day's festivities. Kids five and under can dress up and compete in the patriotic spirit walk. The mid-morning parade begins at the high school and concludes at the fairgrounds. Of course, the day concludes with a large fireworks display.
